The event
A 90-minute workshop we created for the members of the East Pasco Chamber of Commerce: business owners and managers who run on email, online payments, shared files and, more and more, AI tools.
In plain business language, we walked through how attacks on small businesses really happen, the few controls that stop most of them, how to use AI without exposing customer data, and a short plan the room could start on the following Monday.
What we covered
- 01Common small-business threats: phishing, fake invoices and vendor bank changes, ransomware, AI-enabled scams
- 02The essential eight controls, aligned with NIST, CISA and FTC guidance, from passwords and MFA to backups you have actually restored
- 03Safe use of AI tools: a traffic-light rule for what employees can share, and business workspaces instead of personal accounts
- 04Next steps and free tools: a 10-question quick check, a 30-day plan, and five things to do on Monday morning

CUSP Security at the event
We designed and delivered the whole session. Anas Alkatib, our Founder & Principal Security Advisor, presented it for CUSP Security, then opened the floor to questions from the room. Every chamber member was offered a complimentary 20-minute consultation to review their quick-check results.
“A backup you have never restored is only a hope.”

Our perspective
Most attacks on small businesses start with an ordinary-looking email. A known phone number and a second approval stop the costliest ones.
Thank you to the East Pasco Chamber of Commerce for hosting the workshop during Cybersecurity Awareness Month.
